Mr. Valentine (Harlequin Temptation, No 624)
Published in Paperback by Harlequin (February, 1997)
Author: Vicki Lewis Thompson
Average review score:

Exciting glimpse into the world of publishing.
Jack & Krysta are childhood friends who both work for Rainier Paper. She's in the contracts department; he's in shipping. She likes lecturing him on how to improve himself; he likes writing, period. When Jack unexpectedly won in the Valentine Romance Contest by an unpublished author, he panicked! Fearful that his chance of being published would disappear if it was known that a *guy* wrote it (& of what the other guys in shipping would say if they every found out he was writing *romances*), he asks Krysta to masquerade as Ms. Valentine. When Krysta reads Jack's *steamy* novel, she begins to wonder if he's a good a lover for real as he is on paper. Touchingly tender & funny.

Excellent resource
When I was diagnosed my doctor threw 4 prescriptions at me for various steriods and other drugs and sent me on my way - wouldn't answer my questions (too busy) So off I went, got the perscriptions filled, had a nurse insert an IV and got busy. Luckily I had ordered this book in anticipation of the diagosis and it arrived as I started treatment. The first chapter is on Treatment for acute eexacerbations and it explained everything! The following chapters are: Treatments that effect long term course of the disease (the interferon drugs used in the US as well as drugs being used in other parts of the world and those under development), Symptomatic treatment of MS (fatigue, bladder issues, cognition, all the basic symptoms), Alternative therapies (some strange things mentioned here but the authors diplomatically describe what they are, id the risks and provide evaluations/conclusions). I really like this book. It helped me when my doctor could not....now I've got a better doctor, one who specializes in MS, but I still use this book to augment my understanding.

A Music Lover's Guide to Record Collecting
Published in Paperback by Backbeat Books (September, 2002)
Author: Dave Thompson
Average review score:

Informative and well-written
Although my first impression of this book was mixed - originally I wasn't happy that Thompson had devoted almost two-thirds of the book to overviews of individual record labels - after I started reading it I discovered that there is a lot of essential information contained in his look at the various labels, including when they started, who founded them, and some of the collectable (and not so collectable) artists signed to them.

The first third of the book is equally worthwhile. The author discusses not only the collecting of vinyl, but also delves into 8-tracks, cassettes, CDs and virtually all other types of recorded media. It's obvious that he knows what he is talking about. All too many books dealing with collecting something-or-another often are written by uninformed writers who seem to have just discovered whatever it is they are writing about.

I didn't care much for his "Top Ten Collectables" boxes that are scattered throughout the book - but that's a minor point, and a matter of personal preferance. Although in writing a book of this nature, it is essential to discuss "what it's worth", but for me, that's the least important aspect of the book.

Thompson has written an excellent, well-researched book on a subject that has had, with the exception of price guides, very few volumes devoted to it. One can hope that any future books dedicated to record collecting will be as enjoyable as this one is.

The Music Makers
Published in Audio Cassette by Soundings Ltd (May, 2000)
Authors: E.V. Thompson and Kevin Moore
Average review score:

Incredibly attention grabbing and emotion twisting.
It was a fast paced emotional roller coaster ride. Public schools should start replacing The Grapes Of Wrath with this novel which is better in every which way. The Grapes of Wrath is a piece of crap, a giant garbled mess of adjectives twisted into a pile of stale crusty vomitlike mass compared to this incredibly awesome book. Read it and you will forever be a fan of this genious writer till your death.

The Mysterious Fayum Portraits: Faces from Ancient Egypt
Published in Paperback by Thames and Hudson Ltd (22 May, 2000)
Authors: Euphrosyne Doxiadis and Dorothy J. Thompson
Average review score:

A wonderful art book on the first great portrait painters.
This is a beautiful book for anyone interested in Hellenistic Greek or Roman painting or portraits from any time. These are the first portraits in which the subjects look directly at us as we regard them. They are a haunting glimpse into the lives of people dead for 2000 years. This book is full of big color illustrations. Doxiadis does a fine job of tracing the history of the discovery, theories about, and conservation of these images.

The New "Panorama" Bible Study Course: A Plan of the Ages
Published in Paperback by Fleming H Revell Co (May, 1988)
Author: Alfred Thompson Eade
Average review score:

A great 'chart style' overview of God's plan for mankind.
Having been a pastor for about 20 years,I have found this particular book to be of immense help in clarifying important concepts concerning God's overall dealings with mankind, and subsequent results. Too often, believers are filled with 'apparently' unconnected sections of biblical history, but have failed to grasp their import in the complete scheme of 'God's Plan'.The chart- style of this book helps to visually grasp 'whole' concepts such as, 'early civilization development',the geneology of Jesus, the history of 'the children of Israel',the history and future of the 'church'. A great bible study tool!

New Testament Greek Beginnings
Published in Paperback by Prentice Hall (November, 1997)
Author: David L. Thompson
Average review score:

Thanks, Thompson!
This is an old tried-and-true classic. The typeface is ugly, but the information is accurate and lucid. Rule page references and further discussions of the rules is very helpful. It is impossible to give all permutations of each translation, but where practical, Thompson makes notes on variations in the way a sentence can be translated. I have used it for years for myself and for my students.

The New Title I, Balancing Flexibility with Accountability

Must reading for serious educators
The new education law undoubtedly has left many educators frantic. What's different? What hoops do I have to go through? How will it all affect the money I get from the government?

I've looked around lots of places for this kind of information, and this gem is it -- it gives a clear and unbiased look at all the new funding requirements as well as the often-overlooked flexibility the new law provides.

Page-for-page, this book is a must-read for education professionals who are serious about making the most of education reform.

New York State Folktales, Legends and Ballads
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (February, 1991)
Author: Harold W. Thompson
Average review score:

Tasty!
A decidedly nifty (if I may so use the word) introduction to the local folklore of New York State. Contains a nice mix of folktales both standard and unique to the region, ballads ditto, proverbs, historical anecdotes, place name etymology, and the like. Some of the chapter introductions are a bit precious, but other than that this is an overall outstanding work.
